Preliminary Examination
The Prelims is an objective-type screening test. Only Paper I marks are used for cut-off; Paper II (CSAT) is qualifying with a 33% threshold.
Main Examination
The Mains examination is descriptive and tests in-depth knowledge. It has 9 papers – 2 qualifying language papers and 7 merit-ranking papers (Essay + 4 GS + 2 Optional).
Personality Test (Interview)
The interview assesses the candidate's suitability for a career in public service, testing qualities like mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, intellectual depth, and social cohesion.
